Focus of talk will be on defining revival.

There have been many revivals in history

1857 - 1859
Last widespread revival in USA.

We (usa) are in trouble unless revival takes place.

Secularism rules the day. The USA will not survive long without revival.

Hosea 14:5 (New International Version)

I will be like the dew to Israel;
he will blossom like a lily.
Like a cedar of Lebanon
he will send down his roots;

The revival process:

  1. person is 'saved'
  2. process of growing spiritually begins
  3. first love is missed
  4. people realize 'i need renewal'
  5. people pray only during emergencies,
  6. many times churches come into being during revivals, Cumberland Presbyterian Church was 'birthed' during the 'third great awakening'
  7. people grow concerned after seeing the need for spirit revitalization
  8. power for revival must come from outside the people being revived

Vance Havner

Revival is falling in love woth Jesus Christ all over again.

The Church needs a powerful visitation from God.

Definition of revival from the bible:
Acts 3:19-20
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=acts3:19-20

Things become more real during revival, spiritual hunger is increased, people find themselves more loving of God's way

--
Three levels of revival:

  1. Personal, desire for personal relations with God increases Matthew 5:6 'hunger and thirst for righteousness'
  2. Church, pouring out of presence of the Holy Spirit, Acts 2, Acts 4
  3. Corporate or community, Awakening, God's presence spills out into the community, county, region, or country.

--
Three characteristics of revival:

  1. manifest presence of God, God's presence is not in everyone, God only resides or dwells in Christians, When revival happens, holy pure heavyness, holy fear, god is the central presence
  2. Awareness of sin, conviction of sin
  3. The truth and Word of God come alive
  4. When true revival happens presence of God becomes very real
